Full Bio

After graduating from the University of Iowa, Kevin W. Burke moved from the south suburbs of Chicago to Austin, TX.  In the summer of 2009, the former punk frontman hit the stage as a poet for the first time.  He quickly found a home in the Austin scene where he grew in popularity and acclaim  with his style noted for its raw energy and inspirational heart.  His performances have now evolved to include original, live, and pre-produced music together with his words.

Among other accolades, Kevin has had the honor of competing in the National Poetry Slam as a member of the Austin Poetry Slam Team and is a two time Texas Grand Slam Champion.  He has toured nationally with poets Zachary Caballero and “Good Ghost” Bill Moran.  Kevin has also collaborated and shared stages with Grammy winning vocal ensemble Conspirare, Derrick Brown, Anis Mojgani, Cristin O'keefe Aptowicz, and many more.

Kevin is the president and founder of poetry press Timber Mouse Publishing.  He has four self published chapbooks, an album of poetry and music entitled This is Ramshackle Freedom, and has had poems published by Into Quarterly and Freeze Ray Press.  His first full length book Going Down Singing is due to be released in Spring 2019.

When Kevin is not writing, performing, or touring, he works as a firefighter and resides in a little house in South Austin with a wonderful woman and their three big dogs.
